Electric Trailer Expo 2024
Fruehauf proudly introduces New Zealand’s first fully electric semi-trailer.
On the 14th August 2024 Fruehauf celebrated the launch of Schmitz Cargobull S.KOe 3 axle trailer featuring advanced technology aimed at sustainable, efficient transport.
This trailer includes an electric refrigeration unit, a high voltage battery system, and an e-axle generator with integrated power electronics. The refrigerated unit is powered electric energy generated from a 20-volt e-axle generator attached to the trailers second axle, eliminating the need for a diesel generator.
The system stores harvested energy collected while driving above 60kph and braking in a 32kwh lithium-ion phosphate battery, protected by the trailers landing gear. An intelligent battery management function helps ensure optimal battery levels, enhancing reliability during stops. Customers are invited to register with Fruehauf for an opportunity to trial this new product.
Guest speaker Hon Judith Collins, Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, noted that such technology showcased in this trailer, is part of the future and will drive productivity in this country.
The new S.KOe trailer goes beyond just an axle and battery system. It also incorporates advanced trailer connect telematics, adding a layer of sophisticated monitoring and control. This telematics capacity enables real time temperature monitoring, geofencing of cargo, and tyre pressure monitoring, helping ensure optimal conditions and security for transported goods.
Schnitz Cargobull is the first manufacturer to receive European-type approval for a trailer utilizing this technology. The S.KOe model was also honoured with the European Transport Sustainability Award 2024 in the semi-trailer category.
The launch event was highly successful, receiving excellent feedback from the transport community. A great night had by all.
